Heart Robot
The Heart Robot project is funded by an EPSRC grant and seeks to take robotics out of the lab and into the street to meet people and get them thinking about how we might change when the machines around us seem to have emotions. Will we get better at dealing with each other, or will we get emotionally fatigued when our gadgets use the language of emotions to help them to communicate with us?
The Heart Robot project has brought together researchers from the Bristol Robotics Laboratory, circus performers, artists, model makers, puppeteers and experts in animatronics to give us a little taste of the world that may be just around the corner. Most of the work of designing and building Heart has been done by students of the UWE Robotics BSc degree.
Heart robot first appeared at Bedlam Street Festival in Bath on Sunday 1 June followed by Cheltenham Science Fair, St Pauls Carnival, Bristol Circus Festival, Bristol Harbour Festival, special encounters at cafes and bars around Bristol and at Bristol’s new busking zone.
