Research Internships

About Research Internships

A Research internship offers students the chance to obtain work experience in their field of interest and see how theories are applied in real life. Bristol Robotics Laboratory is the largest robotics laboratory of its type in the UK and welcomes applicants of the highest calibre.

Research Interns at BRL

In BRL, research interns are given the chance to work in teams with our established research staff. The project assigned to them will depend on their area of interest and past experience but will form part of our interdisciplinary research portfolio which spans over a number of different themes.

Benefits of a BRL Research Internship

BRL research interns benefit from gaining work experience in a real professional academic environment. They are given the opportunity to develop their skills and apply their knowledge gained through studying. Their involvement at the forefront of robotic technology gives them a competitive advantage in the job market.

Funding a BRL Research Internship

BRL research internships are financially neutral. By this we mean, we will not pay you nor charge you any money for the use of our equipment, the space you'll use and the supervision you'll receive. So, prior to applying for an internship, please ensure you are able to support your travelling costs and your living expenses, including private accommodation.

Apply for a Research Internship at BRL

If you wish to apply for a BRL internship, please send an email to BRL Info with the following information in PDF format, ensuring the total file size of all your attachements is kept below 400kB:

  1. A cover letter with your research interests. Please keep to 1 page.
  2. A full Curriculum Vitae (CV).
  3. Details of your source of funding/scholarship sponsor.

We will then identify an Academic Supervisor who may be interested in your proposal and have the capacity to supervise you and who will guide you through the application process.

Please note, our sponsored opportunities are listed in our Jobs at BRL page. For all other opportunities you will need to identify your own sponsor. Also, at times we are experiencing high volumes of internship applications so they may be a delay before we manage to respond to you.
